The Fond-de-Gras industrial station is located in the middle of a huge nature reserve. Decades ago, the ore mined in the opencast mines and in the galleries was reloaded here and transshipped to the furnaces of the region.
You can now stay overnight in this magical setting. As part of the "Minett Trail", one of the 11 "Kabaisercher" was built here; the hikers' huts were designed so visitors can spend a night in a unique atmosphere. This description is also more than appropriate in Fond-de-Gras, because here you sleep in an old railway carriage. The project was elaborated by the architecture office Teisen & Giesler.
The total of six beds are more than just a luxury sleeper car; there is also a sauna, two fully equipped bathrooms, a shower and a kitchen with a common room and even a loggia to spend relaxing hours together. When designing the wagon, it was also important to the architecture office to preserve its history.
The wagon fits perfectly into its surroundings: the station area of the Fond-de-Gras has also been transformed while still retaining its old strengths and is now an important open-air museum: the "Minett Park Fond-de-Gras" invites its guests to visit old industrial halls and shows a rolling steel mill. But the two trains are clearly the highlights - the mining train "Minièresbunn" takes you deep into the tunnels and runs between the tranquil village of Lasauvage (there is also a "Kabaischen" here) and the Fond-de-Gras; the historic steam train "Train 1900", on the other hand, travels between the town of Pétange and the Fond-de-Gras platform, representing a miniature journey through time.
